Course 3B: Roadman Location: Vaughan
Learn how to reinforce materials so that you can be part of building and then testing post tensioning systems in structures such as parking garages, bridges and stadiums. It’s very critical to have the right technical knowledge and hands-on experience. That’s what you will be trained in this coursework.
In simple terms, a Rodman works with steel rods to reinforce a structure (may it be residential, commercial or high tension bridges). He manipulates steels and other welded wire fabric according to the blueprint and lays them to reinforce concrete structures. This is a critical component of any construction that ensures the safety and structural integrity. Rodman learn a variety of techniques to achieve these desired results.
Typically Rodman begin their work by reading blueprints. Then move on to manipulating the rods to required shapes. They preassemble these reinforcing materials, then sub-assemble them on the ground. Once the alignments and positioning are checked and rechecked they place these assembled structures into the main structure, readying them for concrete work. Rodman are also responsible for stressing post tensioning systems to a predetermined specification to validate them. Being a Rodman requires knowhow and hands on experience.
Work of a Rodman can take him to indoor facilities (such as manufacturing plants, parking garages, transit systems, tunnels), outdoor facilities (dams and bridges), urban areas (high rise buildings and stadiums) or isolated zones (mines). It is highly adventurous and lucrative.
