Summer Company is a Program for Young Entrepreneurs funded by the Province of Ontario through the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment and supported by the Government of Canada.
Participants are full-time students aged 15 to 29 at schools, colleges, and universities. They start businesses delivering products and services ranging from camps, food vending, swimming lessons, dance lessons, gardening, painting, jewelry design, computer graphics, and much more. TBDC helps the students set up and operate their summer venture. Many continue to operate their businesses after returning to school.
Successful Summer Company Program participants can receive a funding award of up to $1,500 to help with business start-up costs, and additional funds upon the successful completion of their Summer Company business upon providing proof of returning to school. Participants benefit from a minimum of 12 hours of business training and the opportunity to meet regularly with a local business mentoring group for support and advice directly relating to operating their summer business.
